Celebrities are photographed, admired and envied by many people wanting to imitate their style. However, with the good inevitably follows the bad as some celebrities fall short of the mark when it comes to their fashion sense. These five celebrities showcase some of the biggest fashion errors made in recent history.
Kim Kardashian’s visor-shaped sunglasses
Kim Kardashian is a relatively new addition to the world of fashion and is often greatly admired for her immaculate make up and the effort she obviously puts into her daily outfits. However, even the rich and famous can sometimes get it wrong. Kim has been spotted in a pair of over sized visor sunglasses which reach from halfway up her forehead to far down her cheeks. Ordinarily visor sunglasses can look chic and sophisticated but Kim’s extreme take on the trend with wide mirrored lenses border would belong in a science fiction film, rather than a trip to the supermarket. These futuristic frames, combined with Kim’s penchant for leather trousers make for a bizarre outfit. Definitely a fashion fail, sorry Kim.
Kesha’s fluorescent body paint
Kesha is a new breed of celebrity, along with Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Paloma Faith who use outlandish, wacky style to make a statement. Consider, would Lady Gaga have sold as many records if she wore plain clothes for her public appearances? However, Kesha seems to take it to another level with her version of extravagant dressing. She is regularly seen wearing short dresses with ripped tights, studded leather jackets and scruffy leather boots. She also favors tribal face paint. However, rather than the rock chick look she is undoubtedly aiming for, she ends up looking like a scruffy teenager who has turned up to a glamorous party embarrassingly under dressed.
Cheryl Cole’s flared trousers
Everyone remembers Cheryl Cole’s disastrous debut on American X-Factor. The popular British fashionista was expected to make a grand entrance and pose for paparazzi in an outfit which would spark new trends across the pond. However, Cheryl’s retro outfit was a huge fashion fail. She wore flared purple trousers with a frilly orange vest and turquoise belt. This, combined with backcombed wavy hair made it look as though Cheryl had stepped right out of the 70s. Perhaps if she had worn the flared trousers with a simple camisole and sleek hair, they might have made the statement she was hoping for. Instead, the whole outfit together resembled a fancy dress costume rather than a cool retro-inspired outfit.
Madonna’ leotards
Ah, Madonna. Once the pop princess of the 80s with her puffball skirts and fishnet tights, it seems as though she is reluctant to relinquish her role as queen of fashion. Her most common appearances in the past few years have consisted of inappropriate leotards as she gyrates on a stage in front of a blushing crowd of fans. It’s true, she has an enviably toned figure for her age, but there comes a time when a leotard should not be worn.
Mariah Carey’s dresses
Mariah Carey is most popularly known as the diva songstress who reportedly required a member of her entourage to walk backwards in front of her in case she fell over at the GMTV studio when filming. However, she is also known for her unique sense of style. Her favorite clothing choices consist of super tight, body-con dresses with a low neckline to reveal plenty of cleavage. Whilst this is a popular celebrity trend, Mariah falls just short of the mark with her range of dresses. For example, she was once spotted in a gold and black zebra print dress with a lace neckline barely covering her chest. This, combined with a pair of oversized sunnies made her look like someone trying very hard to grab attention and look like a celebrity. Similarly, she loves tight dresses slashed to the thigh to reveal her long legs and cleavage. Perhaps she’s forgotten the magic rule: only expose cleavage or legs, never both.
So whilst some of the world’s top celebrities may have the wealth and lifestyles many people yearn for, it appears that the contents of their wardrobes may not always live up to expectations…
