Senior Citizens aged 65 and above are on the rise in America with a 5.3% growth between 2000 and 2010. Estimates state that by 2050 there will be 88.5 million senior citizens, meaning more than 10,000 Americas will turn 65 every day from now until 2050. Currently, senior citizens are 13% of the population in the United States, with 87% of the American population being 64 and younger. Research shows, female senior citizens outnumber male senior citizens. The number of adults aged 65 and older is higher now than it has ever been in the history of the United States. The western part of America has seen the most rapid growth with the highest increase in the senior citizen population at 23.5%. By contrast, the Northeast saw an increase of 14.1%. The Midwest is calculated a 13.5% with the southern part of America coming in at 13%. With this tremendous rise in senior citizens, it is imperative for them to have senior living communities.
