According to her account, Bethany Mota, today just twenty years old, joined YouTube in 2009 as a teenager and has since become a YouTube sensation. She states that she began making videos to escape the stresses of being bullied. She rapidly gained followers, currently up to over seven million, for her videos featuring her fashion purchases via the internet, hair and makeup tutorials, outfit ideas, recipes, and do-it-yourself ideas.
In 2014, Bethany was name one of “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014.” She has completed several tours, which she calls “motavatours,” in which she gets to meet and interact with fans. As hauling became more and more popular on YouTube and retailers began using the website for marketing, she was offered free cosmetics and gift cards, which she featured in her videos, though she explicitly stated which products she had purchased and which she had not.
She has now partnered with JCPenney and Forever 21, as well as launching a clothing and accessories line through Aeropostale. Mota also appeared as a guest judge on the television show Project Runway during its thirteenth season. She joined Dancing With the Star’s nineteenth season as a competitor, in which she and Derek Hough made it to the finals, but were eliminated in fourth place.
She also released a musical single titled “Need You Right Now” with producer and vocalist Mike Tompkin. The official music video was released on February 10, 2015 on Tompkin’s YouTube channel. Mota has confirmed that she is currently working on more music and possibly a debut studio album.
