Very few people are aware of the fact that the entire stretch of Namibian coastline was once known as The Skeleton Coast. It is still known as Skeleton Coast National Park. It protects the coastline of Namibia, and widely stretches from the northern to southern part. This area covers almost 500 kilometers. The area also covers two rivers, namely Kunene and Uqab.
Skeleton coast covers and protects almost one-third coastline of Namibia. The Kunene is considered to be a permanent river, where you see many crocodiles swimming all over. They are huge in size and very aggressive in nature. The population though has decreased in last few years, but you will still enjoy viewing them. The current of this river is quite strong and you have to be very careful when you are visiting this place.
The stunning landscape:
The landscape out here includes many canyons, mountain ranges, and sand dunes. The climate here is cold, because of the sea breezes and you often could see dense fog. In earlier days, sailors had a tough time finding food and water for their survival. This coast has a dreadful look, but it is not the case now. Here, you can find one of the rare species that is nowhere else to be found.
Exciting wildlife:
You can also enjoy the sight of many gigantic mammals like elephant, cheetah, lion, black rhino, zebra, gemsbok, springbok, and brown hyena. This coast is also the home for many rare and extinct birds. There are approximately 247 different types of birds that live here. This is definitely a place for al bird lovers. This coast is the best destination for fishing.
Torra Bay and Terrace Bay are the other two places that is worth visiting, where you can enjoy a whole new look of the nature. If you want to relax and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, then Terrace Bay is a place to visit. Finding an accommodation I s not a difficult task, as there are many bungalows here. If you are visiting this park, then you might have to follow certain rules and regulations.
Visitors are only allowed during day time to the Skeleton Coast Park. You can plan your visit to this park anytime after the sunrise, but you will need to leave before sunset. Accommodations are available outside the park, especially if you are on the south side of the Ugab River. The tourism authorities have taken care of all the basic necessities to enhance their visitor’s experience.
